Over a dozen employees at the Heritage Foundation have quit to join Advancing American Freedom, Mike Pence's advocacy group.
The steady drip of departures from the Heritage Foundation turned into a cascade Monday as legal luminary Josh Blackman resigned and more than a dozen scholars and staff moved to a competing organization founded by former Vice President Mike Pence.
Republicans framed this as a return to conservative fundamentals, blocking out "what they see online."
The exit of more than a dozen staffers follows turmoil at Heritage and the larger conservative movement over the role of right-wing influencers who've promoted antisemitic and other extremist ideas.
Following the departure of scholars at Heritage's Meese Center, staff in other departments at the think tank are expected to leave, sources said.
The staffers are leaving for Advancing American Freedom, a conservative advocacy group founded by Mike Pence.
The Heritage Foundation has seen a large exodus in staffers and supporters since Heritage President Kevin Roberts defended former Fox News host Tucker Carlson's interview with controversial commentator Nick Fuentes.
