Police said the unidentified suspect has been making bomb threats, with a bomb apparently strapped to his body, as he holds at least one hostage at the Chase Bank on 17th Street and Chester in Bakersfield.

Bakersfield Police spokesperson Sally Selby told reporters that several "community members" were in the bank and that crisis negotiators were working to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution.
