Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass says she went to Ghana despite warnings of potential wildfires because 'no one told her not to.

"Obviously I hated the fact that I was out of the city when the city needed me the most," Bass said during an interview.

The Deputy Prime Minister said she was 'delighted' to be travelling to Ethiopia to meet with the African country's leaders, while she is also due to visit Ghana later this week.

Bass was in Ghana for the swearing-in of its president when the fires began, even though there was a high fire risk known at the time.
