Michael Gates, Huntington Beach's longtime city attorney and an aggressive foe of California's liberal politics, joins the civil rights division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
The changes include Sunny Hills and Huntington Beach rising to Division 1 while four O.C. schools receive at-large entries after originally being shutout from the playoffs.
The city of Huntington Beach is suing California over a sanctuary state law that prevents local law enforcement from working with immigration officials.
"The state's policies are so counter to good governance and good law enforcement that Huntington Beach is just fed up," City Attorney Michael Gates told The Post.
