A father tragically lost his life during a Colorado Springs high school track meet when a hammer throw cleared safety barriers and struck him as he shielded his wife and son.
The victim was the father of one of the competing athletes from Vista Ridge High School who died protecting his wife and son from the 25 lb hammer, police said.
