Stalker 2 has already recouped its investment and turned a profit, GSC Game World owner Maxim Krippa confirmed in the latest interview with Forbes.
Stalker 2 has been a massive success. Less than a month since its release on PC and Xbox Series X|S, the game has turned a profit, according to GSC Game World owner Maxim Krippa.
When asked about how many copies does Stalker 2 needs to sell to be considered a commercial success, Krippa answered, "We've already sold enough to turn the project into a profit."
Krippa did not disclose the total budget for Stalker 2 but he did state it was "tens of millions of dollars".
Additionally, we also got some news on the expansions and the multiplayer mode that GSC Game World talked about previously. These are still in the works and Krippa confirmed players can expect them sometime in the future.
There's also a hint that Stalker 2 could be coming to PlayStation 5. Krippa stated that the game is currently in development for "other platforms" but did not specify which ones.
The most obvious guess is PlayStation 5 since we already know Microsoft's deal for console exclusivity was only for three months. I doubt that Switch is capable of running the game but perhaps its successor does manage it.
The fact that Stalker 2 is now profitable less than a month after launch is certainly a big achievement for the developers at GSC Game World who spent many years developing this immersive horror shooter under incredibly difficult circumstances.
It's even more impressive considering the game's launch on Game Pass, which probably took away a chunk of sales but on the other hand, boosted the total player count.
Stalker 2 is truly an excellent video game as I've written in my review. It does suffer from many issues like broken AI and bugs, but there's an incredible experience underneath that. I sincerely hope GSC Game World will fix these problems in future updates so Stalker 2 gets the recognition it certainly deserves.
